Fashola Inspects Rehabilitation Work On Solous Dumpsite
Feb 28, 2008 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Thursday inspected the on going work at the Solous dumpsite in Igando, Alimosho local area of the State with a challenge to the contractors to consider the redesigning of the dumpsite to enable trucks come in through the first gate, tip refuse and take the second gate out of the dumpsite.
While being briefed at the dumpsite by the Managing Director of Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr Ola Oresanya on the provisions made for infrastructure at the dumpsite, he asked the contractors to explore the possibility of redesigning to eliminate the overflow of traffic to the major road.
The Governor who expressed optimism at the promise by the contractor that the rehabilitation work would be completed by the end of May also tasked the contractor to ensure that the road being constructed is able to withstand the number of trucks that would use the dumpsite.
The Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr Ola Oresanya said the site with an estimated landspace of 4.8 hectares has a combined total of 900m of service roads (Solous1 &2)
He added that it was designed to operate two tipping platforms per day but that the high inflow of refuse that is above the projected maximum daily inflow of 2000 metric tones is a threat to the lifespan of the site which is almost being filled up.
Oresanya assured that when fully completed, the Solous dumpsite would have been positioned to enable trucks laden with refuse to drive in through the platforms and tip before driving out without negatively impacting traffic on the LASU-IYANA IPAJA road.
