Fashola Commends Philantropist, Kola Daisi At 70

Nov 22, 2008 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Saturday joined other dignitaries like his Oyo State counterpart, Chief Adebayo Alao Akala, President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Chief Oba Otudeko, foremost banker, Chief Subomi Balogun, in celebrating the 70th birthday of the matriarch of the Kola Daisi family, Alhaja Sherifat Kola Daisi.

Speaking at the ceremony held in Ibadan as the climax of a week long line up of activities to celebrate the philanthropist at 70, Governor Fashola described Alhaja Kola- Daisi as a woman whose contribution to nation building and commitment to the welfare of mankind and the womenfolk are appreciated by all and sundry.

Governor Fashola added that the her exemplary lifestyle is an inspiration to many who have had contacts with her, saying she has been a dutiful and caring wife to her husband and loving mother to her children.

Governor Fashola reiterated that he has been touched by the life of selfless service which Alhaja Sherifat Daisi is living especially among the womenfolk and encouragement to people like him

The Governor explained that Alhaja Sherifat Kola Daisi has impacted positively upon the lives of so many people in so many ways, noting that it was praise worthy that she is being appreciated while still alive as there are many who only enjoy post humous adulations.

Governor Fashola described her as a solid bridge that connects the very extended Fashola family and bears the burden with so much affection.

While joining many well wishers in wishing her many more years on earth, Governor Fashola described her as a truly great woman and a pillar of support to her husband, the great industrialist, Chief Kola Daisi.

Also speaking at the occasion, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu praised Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) for the transformation he has been bringing to bear on the Lagos landscape, saying “you have done so well in Lagos”.

Chief Iwuanyanwu said despite the fact that he shares a different political belief from the Governor; he would not fail to admit to even members of his own party that in Lagos, Governor Babatunde Fashola is doing very well.

He congratulated the celebrant for attaining the age of 70, adding that the caliber of people who attended the event is an attestation to the clout of Chief Kola Daisi and his very supportive wife, Alhaja Sherifat Kola Daisi who is being celebrated.

The occasion which took place at the Civic Centre, Mokola, Ibadan was witnessed by distinguished Nigerians from all walks of life. Chief Kola Daisi later named the hall after his wife in appreciation of her dedication and selfless service to humanity.
