Fashola Provides Free Bus Rides To Lagosians On Xmas, New Year Eve

Dec 24, 2008 - Lagos State Governor Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Wednesday announced the provision of free rides to Lagosians on BRT and LAGBUS buses on Christmas day and New Year eve.

The Special Adviser on Transportation, Mr Kayode Opeifa, who explained this during a joint press conference with LAMATA and LAGBUS Chief Executives, Dr Dayo Mobereola and Mr Tunde Disu described it as part of the gains of democracy for tax payers in Lagos State.

He added that this would help decongest traffic and also make the roads free from accidents which are usually recorded on such days when most people put their vehicles on the road.

Opeifa added that buses from LAMATA and LAGBUS stables would be in operation on Christmas day from 7am to 10pm while on New Year eve they would operate from 10pm to 4am.

He said that this innovation is to provide social services, reduce accidents and to ensure that the citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of LAMATA, Dr Dayo Mobereola advised Lagos residents to drop their cars at home and enjoy the services of these buses while assuring them of their safety and security.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of LAGBUS, Mr Babatunde Disu said that over one hundred LAGBUS buses would be in operation for the two days and will ply all major routes.

He added that there would be others for the Tollgate and Oworo routes that would terminate at TBS as well as those that would go to Mile 2, the Redeemed Christian Church and Deeper Life camps.

He said that there would be proper co-ordination of commuters on both days and adequate security on New Year’s Eve. While encouraging Lagosians to avail themselves of the opportunity to see the transformation in their city, he declared: “During the eve of the New year, we want residents of the state to see the beauty that Lagos had turned into’’.
