Fashola Speaks On Virtues Of Regular Training
May 21, 2009 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Thursday disclosed that a new perspective has emerged which shows that in every team and government where services are delivered, there must be a team of visioners to ensure optimum performance.
Governor Fashola who spoke to newsmen after attending a one day workshop with the theme: “Leading for Value Series II” organized for members of the State Executive Council by the Ministry of Establishment and Training at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island added that such visioners must be able to see the different dimensions to doing things.
Said he: “We need entrepreneurs who continue to feel the need, “let’s do it”, we need men who will continue to say, ‘hold on a second’, have the books been complied with? Is it in accordance with the budget?”
“We need people who are going to follow the process from the beginning to the end to ensure that it works out well if it is an event”.
The Governor also said the workshop has enabled participants to learn new skills on the job as well as strengthen new areas.
Governor Fashola explained that the workshop has allowed everyone to gain from a practical session which has displayed individual strength and weakness as well as bringing to the fore strength which no one really realized existed.
He added that participants also learnt that people have network skills which exists in almost every team just as organizational skills, managerial skills, entrepreneurial skills or luminary and visionary skills also exist, saying network skills are actually leadership skills.
The Governor explained that every society and government need people to network to ensure that whatever is being done is not kept under the bushel but one which people can actually feel, see, hear and understand why the projects are being done..
According to the Governor, conscious effort must be made to hone the multiplicity of skills that exists in every team to as near perfection as possible.
Governor Fashola said the members of the Executive Council were also at the workshop to see if there are new ways of doing things better than it has been done in the last 24 months since the present administration came on board.
While speaking, the facilitator, Mr. Brett Johnson said people who display network skills are people with leadership skills. He added that in most cases women are better networkers than men.
The workshop which had in attendance members of the State Executive Council was put together in collaboration with Ashford McGuire Consulting.
