FIFA Vice-President, Jack Warner, Commends Fashola, LASG

May 21, 2009 - Vice-President of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Mr. Jack Warner, on Tuesday night commended the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), and the State Government for making the Lagos centre ready for hosting the Under-17 World Cup tournament due to hold in Nigeria in October this year.

The Lagos centre is one the six centres penciled down for the tournament which Nigeria had earlier won the right to host. During its visit to Lagos on Thursday, the world football governing body declared that only the Lagos and the Abuja centres are ready for the tournament and gave Nigeria until the end of July to get all the other centres ready.

Speaking at a dinner hosted by the Lagos State Government in honour of the FIFA visiting team, Jack Warner, who is the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Under-17 World Cup tournament, commended what he described as a feat by Governor Fashola and his administration, adding that they did not only attain the required standard by FIFA but surpassed it.

Responding, Governor Fashola pledged the readiness of his administration to continue to support FIFA and also to work closely with the other states of Nigeria to ensure that the country achieves success in hosting the World in October this year.

Also present at the dinner were the Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, his Information and Strategy counterpart, Barr. Opeyemi Bamidele, Finance Commissioner, Mr. Rotimi Oyekan, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Olasupo Shasore (SAN), Special Adviser on Youths Sports and Social Development, Dr. Dolapo Badru among other top government functionaries.

On the Federal Government side were Dr. Amos Adamu, member Executive Committee of CAF, Chairman Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Mr. Sani Lulu, and Chairman, Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Mr. Amanze Uchegbulam, among others.
