Fashola Joins President Jonathan, Other Governors At Fidau For Yar'adua
May 8, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Saturday joined President Goodluck Jonathan, other Governors and dignitaries at the third day Fidau prayers for Late President Umaru Yar'Adua in Katsina State.
On arrival at the Katsian Airport, Governor Fashola joined other Governors present to receive the President before moving in a convoy to the Yar'Adua Family Quarters where the prayers took place.
Speaking to journalist, Governor Fashola said the passage of the former President was a saddening incident which nevertheless reminds man of his mortality. According to the Governor, as Nigerians continue to mourn the demise of late President Yar'Adua, one of the lessons to be learnt is that man's mortality is something that cannot be escaped.
Governor Fashola who spoke with Aviation Correspondents at the Presidential Wing of Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja on his return from the Fidau prayers for the late President said man's mortality is a covenant that he must keep.
The Governor said though the times are different but the covenant remains there, adding that all power, all honour, all elevation truly come from God.
The Governor reminded that the nation still mourns and that the people must be expressive in their conducts and speeches in a manner that reflects the sobriety of the moment.
He said despite the unfortunate incident, the nation must move on, adding that: "the Presidency is bigger and would outlast any occupier of that office".
He said: "It is a tragic contradiction between man and what man creates that inevitably institutions, states and empires that human beings create through the instrumentality of God often survive the people who create them and this really is it".
The Governor Fashola was joined on the trip by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Alhaji Tunde Balogun and the Special Adviser on Housing, Honourable Jimoh Ajao.
