Fashola Inaugurates Governing Council Of Adeniran Ogunsanya College Of Education
…Says Lagos will reap harvest of investments in education in fullness of time

May 24, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Monday inaugurated the Governing Council of the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) with an assurance that in the fullness of time, the State will come to reap bountiful harvest in terms of its investments in education.

Governor Fashola who spoke at the Conference Hall of the Lagos House, Ikeja added that the State Government is convinced that the investment in human and material resources, time, money and efforts are well deployed.

Said he: "Investments in education are long term investments that does not bear fruit very quickly. There is a gestation period. There is also maturity period. In the fullness of time, our state will come to a period of bountiful harvest when we will have first class graduates, first class teachers and 100 percent success in the examination and so on".

"It will also bring forth the rich pool of the new generation of leaders that will propel Lagos forward", Governor Fashola noted.

Governor Fashola who also acknowledged concerns raised by many about the standards in the nation's educational system especially in the public sector expressed the conviction that it is heading in the positive direction.

The Governor also thanked members of the new board for accepting to serve at a time when its country is in dire need of public service, noting: "standing forward to be counted and contribute especially to a sector where we face enormous challenges is worthy of appreciation and commendation".

He added that the new council will be entrusted to act as the thinking mind and operation minds of the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, an institution that has the singular responsibility of training teachers who administer public schools and private schools as well.

"You will therefore have the responsibility of building a nation because if you are training teachers who are training people who would become leaders, the responsibility and investment that you make today is enormous", he added.

The Governor also thanked the immediate past Chairman of the Council, Mrs Adefemi Taire for serving with dignity, honour, passion and commitment and without blemish. He urged the new council led by a retired Permanent Secretary, Mrs Adedamola Akran to continue from where the last council stopped and propel the institution to greater heights.

While responding on behalf of the new members, the Chairman, Mrs Adedamola Akran assured the Governor of the commitment of the new council to give necessary leadership to the institution.

He also said the council will fashion out best practices and align same with the goals and objectives of the institution to ensure that the best is got from all the various publics that exist in the institution.

Among those whom the Governor administered the oath of office on include Mrs Victoria Adedamola Akran as the Chairman, Mrs Ibironke Adeseye, Hon Isola Fagbenro and Chief Owolabi Lemomu as members.

Present at the event were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr Elijah Adewale members of the State Executive Council and top government functionaries
